This website was created as part of my work for the Art exhibition Found in the Place of Origin, the Graduate show for the Masters in Art and Process Crawford C.I.T.
Over the run of the exhibition I will be adding more content in relation to the idea of Memes of authority. Many of us know memes as simple combinations of text and image usually intended to be amusing. The term Memes (as a shortened version of Memetic Device) was coined by Richard Dawkins, in his book 'The Selfish Gene'.
The basics of a memtic device is an idea or thought that is shared, replicated and altered. The video below is a Ted talk by Susan Blackmore, she explains the idea of memes in a general way that makes it seem like everything is a meme.

As my work began to concentrate on the dressings and visual context of authority and I realised that the grand rooms and rich furniture were also memes. By being surrounded by icons of wealth and historical stability the authorities were spreading the idea that they are successful, were successful, and will continue to be successful.
